SEPAC Endorsements Return to Members ONLY Center

There are NO State Constitutional elections, only State Legislative elections for 2008. SEPAC DOES NOT endorse in local or federal elections. SEPAC will be considering recommendations for endorsements from ALL affiliated local union's of AFSCME Council 24. Recommendations should be submitted, in writing, to Steven Williams, PEL Coordinator, AFSCME Council 24.

Article III of the SEPAC By-Laws
Endorsement Process

Section 1
The committee shall adopt or reject the recommendation of the locals.

Section 2
In instances of conflicts between the recommendations of various locals, the committee is the vehicle by which to reconcile differing local recommendations.

Section 3
In the interest if timeliness and efficiency, the committee may delegate direct interviews and evaluations to a sub-committee; however, the final endorsement recommendation must be made by the committee and presented to the Council 24 Executive Board for their approval.

Section 4
Locals can appeal committee decisions to the Council 24 Executive Board.

Article IV of the SEPAC By-Laws
Nature of Endorsements

Section 1
The goal of the endorsement process shall be fair and objective consideration of candidates for political office without regard to political affiliation.

Section 2
Endorsements shall go beyond nominal support of candidates. The committee shall endeavor to create an environment of internal education and grassroots activism, which reflects commitment to endorse candidates.

Section 3
The committee will work with and communicate with locals to generate appropriate grassroots activity.

Section 4
The committee shall evaluate and critique election year activity, including endorsements, and report to the executive board any suggestions for improvements on process or activity level.
